- I am trying out Crazy Blind Date this evening. So far the matchup looks pretty good, though I cast a wide net. We’re meeting a Russian vodka bar, which, especially if you don’t know anything about me, is an amazing choice. I like the CrazyBlindDate idea if only because I am a procrastinator who loves immediate social interaction. If you live in the NYC area and are stalking me, this would be a perfect way to do so. In fact, if I knew any single people I might convince them to use this only to hang out with them. That would be awesome. (7)

- When I was getting my Masters in Library Science, I petitioned the school to allow me to take a graduate class in the Ag school. This graduate class was on Distilled and Fermented Beverages. My friend tend to classify this move as a “scam.” I was successful.
Today however, I complained that our science vocabulary was lacking in food and agricultural science. While people protested, claiming these things were industry, I was able to point out current research in meat and crop sciences.
QED: Taking an ag class for a Masters in LIS is TOTALLY relevant and not a scam. (1)

- Starbuckses (?) everywhere value my personal coffee consumption and want to celebrate my birth, so they will be doling out free tall regular coffee from 10am-12pm today. Please thank them for their kindnesses regarding my birthday.
Actually, if you really do thank them on behalf of me, tell me what they say. (2)

- I have returned from mecca, the All Candy Expo in Chicago. The largest candy trade show in North America. I am wiped out, since I had to do it all in one day, but needless to say it was like a kid in a FREE candy store.
My favorite candy was the Sour Spray from Too Tarts. And they didn’t give me anything free, sadly. I have about 10 lbs. of candy to go through, much of it international. I was surprised at how international the show was. Full expo coverage is available here.
My haul looks something like this:
mmmm….candy
I also ran into the Candy Podcast family completely randomly! The voice sounded familiar and they were all wearing their podcast shirts! Random.
There was a lot of grabbing things, more so than even library conferences where people will go batty over paperclips. There was one exhibit late in the day which looked like it had been attacked by candy zombies. It’s an odd situation to be in when you get picky and snobby about which free candy you’ll take, but when you only have a limited space (you could only take approved bags on the floor), you must have standards. On the way out we ran into some Apple Store employees who had scammed their way into the show. I salute candy scammers! In fact I was surprised there weren’t more. My favorite was a trio of women dressed similarly who all had bluetooth headsets on. Very futuristic/Destiny’s Child. Are you really doing power business at the candy show?
Basically the show ran us ragged, and I will now be ruined for all other conferences!
Alright I am crashing…..zzzzzzzzz. (4)
