epic fail
How was I unaware of the NKOTB reunion? I consider this both a personal failure on my part and on that of my friends for not mentioning it. HOW COULD YOU?
I have to say, except for the poor facial hair, Danny is far more attractive than he used to be. Jordan seems like a poor man’s Matthew Broderick now.

I didn’t say anything because I thought you were way too cool for NKOTB.
I never liked NKOTB. By the time they got popular, I was all into Depeche Mode, Morrissey, and the Cure.
Anyhow, my best friend in high school was OBSESSED with Danny Wood. She picked him out of all the New Kids because she felt that since he was the ugliest one, she had the most chance of making him fall in love with her. (Nobody said she was sane.) She bought all the teen celeb mags and cut his head out of every picture that he was in and taped them through her door, creating a creepy mosaic of disembodied Danny-heads. She studied the New Kids Dance and could perform it like a pro. She applied to Boston University because the New Kids were from Boston and she thought that maybe going to school there would somehow cause them to cross paths.
I also remember going to the line at a Ticketmaster during a huge snowstorm with my college-age boyfriend (I was 15) to make fun of her. Then we drove off in his stepdad’s ‘86 Ford Escort to listen to Ministry and engage in extremely heavy petting while parked in a cornfield. Ah, youth!

I think maybe I already told you about this woman, who may be the assistant director of advancement (fundraising) here at work, who spent a whole entire meeting doodling “NKOTB” on her agenda.
This was way before the reunion got announced. And yes, there is always a lot of turnover in the advancement department, but I guess I assumed there would be a little more professionalism there?
Anyway. I was too old for NKOTB the first time around, which is a little scary.

Wow, I was not that level of insane though I contend that “Tonight” is a genius song, on par with anything by any other pop sensation.
Also Nanette, that is a sad commentary on your friend’s self-esteem.

I, too, am very disappointed with both of us for not knowing about this sooner. And, of course, happy to know it now.
Joe was my New Kid of choice back in the day, with the occasional Donnie dalliance. I thought Jon was homely then, but he actually looks the best of the bunch now, I think.

I think John’s still homely. Jordan all the way now!
I was also Joey’s girl.
